The first general meeting brought philosophies, goals and rationales to the importance of the Cheer Coaches Association in Ohio. Discussion of associations in contingent states: Kentucky, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Michigan, West Virginia and others throughout the U.S.
Although many of these associations do host competitions, the Ohio Association of Cheerleading Coaches has voted not to host competitions of any kind.
Our primary objective is to educate and inform, promote, advocate and support participants and affiliates of those involved in cheerleading in Ohio. Our goal is to create a dynamic, world-class system that equips all coaches, directors, students and parents for the fast paced, ever changing needs of the cheerleaders, the organizations and the directors in this most mis-understood sport.
Recently a cheerleader recovering from G.I. surgery returned to practice. She died after her spleen ruptured at her gym. Although she had a medical concern that needed to be investigated before her return to physical activities, this fatality was labeled as a cheerleading death. In light of the over exposure of statistics and media exploitations and mis-informations and tainted reports, safety has become the Buzzword for cheerleading. The OACC shall be a catalyst for documentation, research and provides access to resources for safety awareness and injury statistics and reports.
A second driving force for the Action Plans of the OACC is Character development for the coaches and the athletes. A coach is a teacher, a role model a mentor, a psuedo parent. The OACC will promote a "no discrimination" policy based on gender or age. We shall promote safe hiring practices, steadfast philosophies, offer background screenings, and support and provide coaches education. Cheerleaders as role models to their peers must also receive a high quality program, instructors and access to all resources to help them grow as individuals and teach them to help their organizations.
With our home on the web and throughout Ohio, the web programming need not be strictly educational to qualify, but instead must contribute to the educational and informational needs of children and about children, youth, teens, young adults, their families and their activities.
The OACC is devoted to these primary educational purposes and principles and does so by meeting the challenge ...
